1 (21-ounce) can cherry pie filling – Replace the cherry filling with an equal amount of apple pie filling, strawberry pie filling, or blueberry pie filling. 1 (15-ounce) can crushed pineapple, plus juice 1 (15.25-ounce) package yellow cake mix – The yellow cake mix can be replaced with an equal amount of another flavor such as white cake mix, lemon cake mix, or chocolate cake mix. You can use gluten-free yellow cake mix in this recipe. 6 ounces chopped walnuts – Use sliced almonds, chopped pecans, or add in coconut flakes. ¾ cup butter – unsalted butter. optional – add ½ to 1 teaspoon of almond extract or vanilla extract when mixing the pineapple and cherries. optional topping – Serve it in a bowl with a scoop of Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream or Whipped Cream on top.
