A Favorite in the Crock Pot
Cobblers and crisps are some of our favorite desserts, especially in the fall. We also love having all things apple-flavored during these months, like Apple Cobbler and Apple Crisp. Because things get to be a little hectic in the fall, we wanted to come up with the perfect Crock Pot Apple Crisp that hits all of those fall favorites. This recipe is so good and so simple that we have it on repeat all fall long. It reminds us of an Apple Pie but with fewer steps! Serve it up with a scoop of Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream and Caramel Sauce for a perfect treat!
Ingredients
PREP TIME: 15 minutes BAKE TIME: 3 hours
Topping
1 cup all-purpose flour – How to Measure Flour ½ cup brown sugar ½ cup granulated sugar 1 teaspoon cinnamon ¼ teaspoon nutmeg ¼ teaspoon salt ½ cup butter, cold – unsalted butter 1 cup walnuts, chopped – or use pecans in place of walnuts or a mixture of the two
Filling
6 cups apples, peeled and sliced – Cut the apples all the same size so they’ll cook at the same rate. Some good apples to use include Jonagold, Honeycrisp, Braeburn, Cortland, Winesap, Pink Lady, Granny Smith apples. Be sure to peel the apples for the best texture. ⅓ cup granulated sugar 1 tablespoon cornstarch 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 tablespoon lemon juice – fresh lemon juice or from a bottle. You can also add in a little lemon zest. optional toppings – A scoop of Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream, a dollop of Whipped Cream, or Caramel Sauce drizzle
