Simple Ingredients, Big Flavor: Who knew such basic ingredients could result in something so delightful? You probably have most of the ingredients in your kitchen already, making this a fuss-free, spontaneous treat. Comfort in Every Bite: This cobbler is the epitome of comfort food. The warm, sweet peaches combined with the golden, crispy topping and the drizzle of caramel are just out of this world. It’s the ultimate homestyle dessert that hits all the right notes. Anytime, Anywhere: From a quiet evening at home to a bustling party, this peach cobbler fits right in. It’s versatile enough to be served on any occasion, making it a dependable dessert option. Fresh or Frozen, Your Choice: Don’t worry if fresh peaches are out of season. This recipe works wonderfully with frozen peaches too. It’s flexible and adaptable, ensuring you can enjoy it whenever the craving strikes.

For the Peach Mixture:

Peaches: The star of the show. Use peaches that are ripe but not overly soft. They should yield slightly to pressure but not be mushy. You can use fresh or frozen peaches. Note: If using frozen peaches, thaw, chop, and blot them dry before using. Granulated Sugar: Adds sweetness and helps create a syrupy texture. Lemon Juice: Balances the sweetness with a bit of tang. Ground Cinnamon: Adds warmth and depth of flavor. Nutmeg: A pinch of nutmeg enhances the spice profile. Cornstarch: Thickens the peach juices to create a lovely sauce. Water: Helps dissolve the cornstarch and creates the sauce.

For the Topping:

Flour: The base of the topping, providing structure. Baking Powder: Helps the topping rise and become fluffy. Salt: Enhances all the other flavors. Granulated Sugar: Sweetens the topping. Butter: Adds richness and helps create a crispy texture. Vanilla: Adds a lovely aromatic note. Turbinado Sugar: Sprinkled on top for a bit of extra crunch and sweetness. Salted Caramel Sauce: Drizzled over the top for an extra indulgent finish. Note: You can use store-bought or homemade. Check out my Fail-Proof Easy Salted Caramel Sauce (Thick)

Process Overview: Step-by-Step Photos

Step 1 – Make the Cobbler Topping

In a medium bowl, stir the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar with a fork until combined. Add the melted butter and vanilla; mix until a dough forms.

Step 2 – Make the Peach Filling

In a cast iron skillet over medium heat, mix peaches, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg; cook until sugar is dissolved, about 5 minutes. Mix water and cornstarch in a small bowl and add to the peach mixture. Bring to boil and stir constantly for 2 – 3 minutes, or until the mixture thickens. Turn the heat off.

Step 3 – Assemble and Bake

Drop tablespoonfuls of dough over the peach mixture. Sprinkle the turbinado sugar, if using, over the dough. Bake for 30 – 35 minutes, or until the cobbler topping is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbling around the edges. To test for doneness, stick a toothpick into the biscuit topping, and if it comes out clean, it’s done. Remove the cobbler from the oven, and set the pan on a wire rack. Rest for 15 – 20 minutes to allow syrup to thicken – it will still be perfectly warm for serving. Serve warm with a drizzle of salted caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream, or whipped cream.

Food Allergy Swaps

Dairy-Free: To make this recipe dairy-free, you can easily swap out the dairy ingredients for non-dairy alternatives. Use vegan butter instead of dairy butter. There are many brands available in stores. I usually use Miyoko’s Creamery Organic Vegan Butter Check out my favorite dairy-free substitutes here. Gluten-Free: Use a gluten-free, all-purpose flour blend. Look for a gluten-free flour blend specifically formulated for baking, as it will have the right combination of flours and starches to mimic the texture of wheat flour. My favorite is Better Batter Original Blend. Nut-Free: This recipe is naturally nut-free, but always check the labels on your ingredients to be sure.

Variations & Additions

Berry Mix-In: For a fruity twist, add a handful of berries (blueberries or raspberries) to the peach mixture. Spiced Up: Add a bit more cinnamon or even some ground ginger for an extra kick. Crumble Topping: Mix in some oats with the flour for a more textured topping.

Serving Suggestions

Serve your peach cobbler warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. The cold creaminess pairs perfectly with the warm, spiced peaches and crunchy topping.

Storing and Freezing Instructions

Storing: Any leftovers can be stored covered in the fridge for up to 5 days. They can then be reheated in the oven or microwave until warm. Freezing: You can freeze the baked cobbler. Let it cool completely, then wrap it tightly and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.
