I love sharing kid-friendly treats like Melted Witch Bark, Chocolate Spider Trifle, and Gooey Monster Cookies that are fun to make and taste so yummy! Monster Rice Krispie treats are definitely fun to make, and they taste delicious!

Rice Krispie Monsters

As Halloween is approaching, we’ve been trying to come up with fun Halloween treats that we can munch and use for parties. Rice krispie treats are one of our favorites, so we’ve made a few different Halloween themed versions—like Frankenstein Rice Krispies, Candy Corn Rice Krispies, and these Monster Rice Krispies! We made five different colors – black, lime green, orange, purple and turquoise. Like I said, they’re great for Halloween, but would also be awesome at a monster-themed party. We also used the store bought rice krispies, but if you’re feeling ambitious, you could use homemade rice krispies instead and cut them into rectangles. I’m sure the kiddos would love to get in the kitchen and help you with the dipping and candy eyes! 😉

How to make Monster Rice Krispie Treats

You can definitely make homemade rice Krispie treats using your favorite recipe, then cut them into rectangles and follow the recipe from there. We just liked using store bought Rice Krispies Treats because it made it really quick and easy! They’ll taste great either way. PREP. Unwrap the Rice Krispies (or cut your homemade rice Krispie into rectangles). STICKS. Add the lollipop sticks to the bottoms of the treats. CANDY MELTS. Melt candy melts as directed on package (35 melts will cover 3-4 rice Krispie) and dip tops of the treats in melted candy. Place on parchment paper. DECORATE. Press candy eyes on while candy coating is still wet, and let them set completely. If you want them to set quicker, you can place them in the fridge – just make sure you put the parchment paper on a cookie sheet first!

Variations:

We loved how cute the candy eyes turned out with the different colors for these treats. You and your kids can have some fun and change things up if you wish. Some ideas include:

Using edible writing gel to create a mouth Use chocolate rice Krispies or even fruity pebbles to make your own treats Use a popsicle sticks or decorative straws instead of candy sticks

Tips, Variations + Storing Info

Candy foot: Sometimes when you dip into candy coating you may notice a small puddle of extra coating form at the bottom of the treat. This is called a candy foot. You can lesson the probability of it forming my tapping off excess coating before placing the treat on wax paper to set. If a foot still forms, then you can simply break or cut it off and use your finger to smooth out the cut edge.  Whether you are making these ahead of time or storing leftovers you can keep them at room temperature or in the freezer.  STORE the rice Krispies in an airtight container 2-3 days. Be sure that before you store them after the candy coating has hardened. Also, separate the layers with wax or parchment paper.  To FREEZE, wrap each individual rice Krispie treat in a layer of plastic wrap before placing them in a freezer safe bag. Freeze them for up to 4 months.
