Prep Time : 10 mins Raw rice -3/4 cup Tur dal – 1/3 cup Tamarind – a small lemon sized ball Turmeric powder – a pinch Ghee -2 tsp Salt needed Vegetables Pearl onions -10 (Cut it into 2 pieces if it is big) Carrot – 2 medium size Beans – 10 Potato – 1 medium size For the Masala Channa dal/Bengal gram/Kadalai paruppu -2 tsp Coriander seeds/Malli -1 tbsp Red chilli -5 Whole black pepper -4 Grated coconut -1/4 cup flat For the seasoning Oil – 4 tsp Mustard seeds – 1 tsp Fenugreek seeds – 1/2 tsp Red chilli – 1 Hing/Asafoetida – a generous pinch Curry leaves – 2 sprigs Method
Onion Raita /Onion Pachadi Peel and cut 3 onions lengthwise into thin strips. Add salt needed and leave it for 10 minutes. Squeeze out water from the onions and mix 1 1/2 cups of plain yoghurt/curd to it. Heat a tsp of oil and season with mustard seeds and 1 finely chopped green chilli. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with sambar sadam.
